We are excited to announce a “Virtual Classroom Interview Series: AgTech Around the World” via the San Andreas High School, Highland, CA Virtual Classroom where we will be streaming our online interviews via Zoom with professionals and companies doing exciting things in the world of Controlled Environment Agriculture around the globe.

TODAY’S GUEST:

Christian D'Antonio, is Sustainability Expert and Education Director at Green Iglu in Toronto Canada, talks to us about how they are overcoming the challenges of food deserts with the native communities of the arctic circle through Controlled Environment Agriculture. Christian D’Antonio is responsible for educational initiatives within partner communities focusing in Northern Canada. Christian is an avid believer in statistical analysis and education as primary building blocks to sustainability through social innovation.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Green Iglu built its first Growing Dome in Naujaat, NU in 2015. Since then, our organization has been at the forefront of agriculture in Canada’s North. From our beginnings at Ryerson University as an Enactus social impact project, we are now recognized as a Canadian Non-Profit organization and operate multiple food production facilities across Northern Canada. Our designs, methodologies, and technology are all formed through the perspectives and input of our partner communities. Green Iglu is fighting food insecurity in the Arctic by using Growing Dome greenhouse technology to grow fresh produce in Northern communities all year-round. 68% of families in Northern Canada are food insecure; without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. We see this a systematic issue, a product of how food is grown, supplied and transported to Canada’s North.
